BLEPHAROPLASTY

BLEPHAROPLASTY

WHAT IS A BLEPHAROPLASTY?

A blepharoplasty is surgery performed to remove excess skin and fat deposits from the eyelids that can make you look tired and worn out. This procedure may improve but not remove fine lines around the eyelids. Laser resurfacing is often a useful adjunct to better deal with this problem.

THE PROCEDURE

The procedure can easily be performed under local anesthesia in our office. The surgery is performed within one to three hours, depending on the extent of the procedure. Patients will go home on the same day shortly after their procedure.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The surgeon will follow your natural crease lines to perform the procedure to minimize noticeable scarring. Immediately after the procedure, moist gauze dressings will be applied to the eyes and instructions will be given to apply cold moist compresses to the eyes for one day to reduce swelling and bruising. Swelling and bruising will vary with each patient but will generally resolve in one to two weeks. Discomfort after the procedure is minimal. You will be advised to remain essentially inactive for one or two days and to keep your head elevated and avoid strenuous activity for ten days. Non arduous work can be resumed in just a day or two.
